Electret Microphone Preamp Stripboard Layout


someone asked me to do this, so I did. it's a useful little circuit to power those little electret microphones.

  1. Hi, Paul. I'm following your work in this blog for a lot of time. You,ve helped a lot with your vero layouts. I hate that my first comment be for trying to improve your work, but that's it.
    This design for an electret preamp is known to be very bad. The transistor is misbiased, it has no bass at all and is painfully noisy. I couldn't use it with none of my electret capsules. You have to substitute the capacitors(both of them) for at least 1uF ones, change 100k resistor for 220k ant the 10k between the colector and +v for 1k.

  2. it worked for whatever I was using it as at the time - it was actually based on the input part of a microcassette dictaphone (think wargames) however I'm sure your suggestions will come in handy for anyone who want to get better a performance out of it

  3. thank paul , i used this with a mic that was pulled out of a infiniti suv , it was the cabin mic to speak on the phone i guess ? anyway we use this circuit with that mic as a "talk back mic" when we rehearse with our headphone , or line in rig . i am considering trying this circuit again in conjunction with a 4k "action camera" as it has an external mic port . it came with a "lavalier mic" but ...

  5. if you use the mods as suggested by user " unlnown" who posted on the 19th of february i would also suggest a much higher value of pot or trimmer , 300k-1m depending . i did the mods , noticable difference - more bass . thanks again Paul .
